CALD Seniors risk social isolation …

Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Seniors have long been thought to be at greater risk of becoming socially isolated.

This was recognised recently by Victorian Minister for Ageing, David Davis, in announcing new funding for Victoria’s Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Seniors Grants Program, where he said the following:

  • “The Victorian Coalition government is supporting seniors from all cultural backgrounds to keep healthy and active and connected to the community as they age”; and
  • “Social inclusion is crucial in ensuring that senior Victorians age well and evidence shows that older people from CALD backgrounds can face a higher risk of social isolation.

HillsCarPal was set up to combat social isolation amongst Sydney Hills Seniors. As such we recognise the need to continue recruiting volunteers who are culturally aware. We also welcome very warmly any volunteer who can speak  a second language so that our Seniors Transportation service can be more easily accessed by Sydney Hills CALD Seniors.
